I was just now driving down the road behind a large furniture delivery truck. As we slowed down to stop for a red light I became aware of a man on the sidewalk next to the truck tugging hard on a leash.

I couldn’t see the dog on the other end of the leash at first, but based on how hard the man was pulling–leaning hard away from the street, I expected to see a sizable dog, perhaps a lab or a german shepard.

But as the truck eased forward enough for me to see better, there, reared up on her hind legs, barking and lunging with all of her might at the truck, was a little bitty pug.
She was so tenacious, so fixated on giving that truck a talking to that I almost expected the truck to come to life and back away slowly, saying, “ok, ok, I’m leaving. So sorry!”
It was so ridiculous that I couldn’t stop myself from laughing for blocks, the absurd sight running back through my head…all the while knowing exactly how that poor dog felt. She was fighting in a seemingly impossible battle against something far bigger than her.
It might look crazy but she chose to fight anyway.
And that…that I can understand.

  • Maybe we all need to have that little bit of 'crazy inner pug' come out to play more often…we could accomplish so much more! Thanks for this delightful image!
